CONTRACTION
CONTRACTIONS [সংকোচন]:- Constraction means the process of becoming smaller. It is a shortened form of word that omits certain letters or sounds. মূলত Auxiliary Verb এবং Pronoun এর ক্ষেত্রে Apostrophe (‘) প্রয়োগ করে Constraction বা Short form করে Informal Writing ও Spoken English এ প্রয়োগ করা হয়।

| Subject এর সাথে be-verb এর প্রথম অক্ষরকে বাদ দিয়ে: 1. I am –I’m [আইম] 2. We are- we’re [উইয়্যা(র)] 3. You are- You’re [ইউঅ্যা(র)] 4. He is-He’s [হিজ্] 5. She is –She’s [শিজ্] 6. It is- It’s [ইট্স্] 9. That is –That’s [দ্যাট্স্] | Not এর ‘o’ বাদ দিয়ে Verb এর শেষে n’t যুক্ত করে; 14. Is not – isn’t [ইজন্ট্] 15. Are not –aren’t [আন্ট্] 16. Was not – wasn’t [ও্যঅজ্ন্ট্] 17. Were not – weren’t [ও্যয়্যা(র)ন্ট্] 18. Do not – don’t [ডৌন্ট্] 19. Did not – didn’t [ডিডন্ট্] 20. Does not – doesn’t [ডাজ্ন্ট্] |

1.আমরা ছাত্র- We’re students. 2. তারা এখন ব্যস্ত-They’re busy now. 3. এখন সকাল – It’s morning now. 4. এটা খুব সুন্দর জায়গা – It’s very nice place. 5. তাদের এখানে বাড়ি আছে- They’ve a house here. 6. এটা ভালো পরিকল্পনা –It’s a good plan. 7. আজ খুব গরম – It’s hot today. 8. আজ আমাদের দেরি হয়নি- We aren’t late today. 9. উনি দিল্লিতে ছিলেন না- She wasn’t in Delhi. 10. আমি চিঠি পাইনি – I didn’t get the letter 11. ওদের কাছে গাড়ি ছিলনা – They didn’t have car. 12. তুমি সুখি ছিলেনা – You weren’t happy. 13. মহৎ ব্যক্তি সময় নষ্ট করেন না- Great men don’t waste time. 14. তিনি যাবেন না –He won’t go. 15. তুমি কি সুখী নও? – Aren’t you happy? 16. আমি জানিনা- I don’t know. 17. আমরা এই খবর শুনিনি- We haven’t heard this news. 18. আমাদের যাওয়ার দরকার নেই- we needn’t go. 19. আমরা কাজটি করি নি- We haven’t done the work. 20. সে তার কাজটি শেষ করে নি- He hasn’t finished his work. 21. সে বইটি পড়েনি- He hasn’t read the book. 22.সে উত্তর দিতে পারেনি –He couldn’t reply. 23. কালকে বাবা বাড়িতে থাকবেনা- Father won’t be at home tomorrow. 24. সে ইংরেজি শেখেনি- She hasn’t learnt English. 25. আমাদের দেরি করে শোওয়া উচিৎ নয়- We shouldn’t go to bed late. 28. He’s done it. – সে এটা করেছে। 29. I’ve done it. – আমি এটা করেছি ।
